Town House, Dublin

This distinctive Georgian style cottage was probably built between 1870 and 1880.

The front of this private terraced home contains low box parterre with flowering Lavender and Viburnum tinus and a solitary ornamental Magnolia, mirrored on each side of the path. The elevated threshold of the front door is framed with climbing Wysteria.

The rear garden is testimony to scale in a residential space. Seven arches of Carpinus betulus arc across the garden, their living architectural forms juxtaposed along a flowing stepping stone path which passes through and then alongside alternate arches. It is an unusual concept that the arches do not form an arbor, rather they encapsulate spaces and entice the gardener to countless different depths of view into the garden. The functionality is that they screen the car park beyond without relying on a one dimensional hedge.
