With its cascading foliage, waterfall and modern sculpture, Broadgate as a whole is an arresting place to both work and visit. Charles Funke Associates embraced the challenge of, ‘greening the city’, clothing both the striking architecture of the Arena itself, the surrounding office buildings and public squares.

Roof gardens, atriums, upper level planters and both climbing and hanging plants were utilised to best create planting on all levels. This involved understanding the demands of the plants on an irrigation system, appropriate plant selection and soil preparation to ensure success. The green canopies of mature trees are paramount to this scene and a series of planting details were required to ensure plants would survive in the urban environment.
